The hospital is the screening and prevention base for cerebral apoplexy of the national health and family planning commission of the people’s republic of China, the standardized training base for national general practitioner, the general surgery training base for endoscope and minimally invasive medical science of the national health and family planning commission of the people’s republic of China, the nationwide first batch project group of “Training Mode Pilot Reform for MBBS Professional Master’s Degree, the educational base for college students’ off-campus practical education of the Ministry of Education.
By utilizing and updating the advanced medical technologies, Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University aims to achieve the international standards in its technology. Hundreds of medical, technological programs have been carried out, such as: replantation for the mutilated limbs, open heart surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass, transplant operation, minimally invasive surgery, advanced interventional treatment for the heart diseases, artificial liver technique, endoscopic diagnosis and surgery, the first case of separation of Siamese twins and the first case of allogeneic heart transplantation in Sichuan province, the test-tube baby, artificial cochlea and etc. The hospital owns 23 “National Key Subjects”, “Key Subjects of Sichuan Province” and “Constructing Key Subjects of Sichuan Province” in total. In this way, the hospital will use its full potential to form the pattern of "the hospital with advanced level, the department with features, the doctors with expertise".
The hospital carries out the strategy of "prevailing the hospital with science and technology, developing the hospital with expertise”. There are more than 4000 staff in service, more than 600 experts with senior professional titles, 132 doctors, 15 experts who enjoy the special allowance of the State Council, more than 400 PhD and postgraduate supervisors. The hospital has 9 national professional testing agency of clinical drug. In recent years, more than 2000 scientific research projects have been permitted including 40 items of NSFC (National Science Foundation of China) and 100 items of provincial research projects and the hospital have been awarded the scientific research funds of more than 60,000,000 yuan. And more than 100 items won scientific and technology awards from the state, ministry, province and municipality, 90 items obtained authorized patent, of which 3 items won Chinese Medical Science and Technology Prize and 5 items won Provincial Science and Technology Progress Awards.
The hospital persists in deepening the educational reform. Now, there are 5 schools and departments including Clinical Medicine School, Anesthesiology School, Medical Image School, Medical Laboratory School and Rehabilitation Medical School in the hospital. There are 2 "National-Level Feature Disciplines", 8 "Provincial Excellent Open Courses (Resource Sharing)", 3 “Provincial Bilingual Teaching Curriculum”, 3 "Provincial Excellent Teaching Group", 1 “National-Level Off-Campus Practice Teaching Base of College Students" and 2 “Pilot Projects for Excellent Physician Education Training Reform of the Ministry of Education". Clinical Medicine of the hospital serves as the first-level discipline of the master degree’s authorization. Over the past 20 years, more than 3,500 postgraduate students have been recruited to the school and more than 2,500 of them have already graduated. The clinical medicine school have been awarded the first prize contentiously for six years of the southwest and northwest division in the National Clinical Skills Competition of the Students from Medical Colleges and Universities, and awarded the second prize twice, third prize four times in the national finals.
The hospital attaches great importance to import and modernize its equipments. It now has more than 700 million Yuan (RMB) of modern and large-scale equipments, such as PET-CT, X-ray photon knife, 3.0T magnetic resonance (NMR), Multiple Spiral CT, ECT, Linear Accelerator, DSA, thermotherapy machine, Color Ultrasound, Automatic Biochemical Analyzer, femtosecond laser myopia therapy apparatus and etc. These equipments in the hospital have laid the solid foundation for the advanced diagnosis and treatment technology with high quality.
