It is a direct line with no stops in between which makes it easy for tourists to navigate as there is no possibility of misunderstanding and getting off at the wrong stop, oops! A one-way fare costs €14 and pets are allowed too. You can purchase a ticket on a local regional train for a cheaper fare, however there will be stops along the way, so you’re paying for the convenience.
Once you purchase your ticket, it is valid for 90 minutes so if you miss one train, wait the 15-30 minutes and another will come along. All the train cars are first class seating and there are no assigned seats and plenty of luggage racks for storage.

How to purchase a TicketThere are three ways to purchase your ticket on the Leonardo Express:
1) Online ahead of time via Trenitalia website. An advantage of purchasing your ticket ahead of time is you don’t have to wait in line at a kiosk or counter, you simply scan the QR code or enter the code that’s on your smartphone when the inspector comes by. Another advantage is your ticket is ALREADY validated.
a. Tips for ordering online:
Make sure your smart phone is on and charged when the inspector comes by to see your ticket.Have the ticket/QR code/code pulled up and ready when he/she comes by.When you purchase online make sure you’re purchasing the Leonardo Express train and not the Regionale trains (though those are cheaper).2) At the train station from an employee in the ticket booth. If you’re worried about the digital format, then this is another option. Once you take the escalators up from the airport into the train station, you can approach one of the booths to purchase your ticket. There will be at least a few employees that speak English, so don’t be scared for that reason. If you choose to purchase your ticket from the booth, double check if you have to VALIDATE your ticket, most like your ticket will ALREADY be validated. If you’re unsure, just ask a staff member at the booth or throughout the station.
3) At the airport at a ticket machine. There are automated ticket machines inside the train station at airport where you can purchase a ticket.
Tips for purchasing tickets at the machine:
You MUST validate your ticket if you purchase one from the machine.Validating your TicketIt is extremely important to validate your ticket before boarding the Leonardo Express. If you don’t validate your ticket, you’ll be charged with a whopping €50 fine. Again, if you purchased your ticket online, then your ticket is already validated and you DO NOT need to put it into the validator machine.
The ticket validator machines are located AFTER the turnstile where you scan the barcode of your ticket to get onto the platform. Once you scan to get on the platform, you will see the validator machines; stick your ticket into it and it will make a clicking sound. Once you hear the clicking sound, it has been validated.
Now you’re ready to ride the Leonardo Express, so sit and relax and enjoy the short train to the center of Rome.
