A friend of mine is a department manager at a large company. His secretary requested a 10% salary raise.
The problem was that 10% was a large raise compared to the 5% other employees had received. Was there a win-win(双赢) way out of this problem?
As they looked at the possibilities, several ideas appeared. The company starts work at 8 am and closes at 5 pm. The manager learned that his secretary got caught in heavy traffic every evening on the way home. They agreed to have her work from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.This saved her at least 20-25 minutes driving time, a benefit to her at little or no loss to the company.
They then studied her job in detail. Before long they jointly developed a new idea which gave her more responsibilities, and, at the same time, more interesting work.
Both parties benefited from the changed arrangement of work. The raise itself was then discussed.A decision was made by agreeing on a 6% raise for three months and then an additional 2% later if the new responsibilities were properly performed.

Passage 2
The practice of exchanging foreign currency can vary by country. In one country, you may have to change your money at the airport, and in other countries you may need to buy your foreign currency in advance. Here are some places you can exchange foreign currency for U.S. currency.
Your Bank
In many cases you can purchase U.S.currency for your trip from a bank. Banks tend to have higher exchange rates than some currency exchange businesses. Before you purchase currency from a bank, check the currency change rates for that day so you can compare the rate the bank is giving and determine if it's a good offer. There is a fee involved in withdrawing foreign currency from your bank.
The Airport
Currency exchange businesses can be found at most international airports, so you can purchase U.S. currency either before you board your flight or at the U.S. airport on arrival. Note that U.S. airports typically have fewer currency exchange counters than travelers are accustomed to seeing in other parts of the world. If the airport you are flying into is not in a major U.S. city, consider using the exchange service in your departure airport to be on the safe side. If you are in an airport where several exchange companies operate, be sure to shop around for the best rate and lowest exchange fee.

Passage 3
When we think about happiness, we usually think of something extraordinary, a peak of great delight — and those peaks seem to get rarer, the older we get.
For a child, happiness has a magical quality. Of course, kids also experience lows, but their delight at such peaks of pleasure as winning a race or getting a new bike is unreserved.
For teenagers, or people under twenty, the concept of happiness changes. Suddenly it's conditional on such things as excitement, love, and popularity. I can still feel the agony of not being invited to a party that almost everyone else was going to.But I also recall the great happiness of being invited at another event to dance with a very handsome young man.
In adulthood the things that bring joy — birth, love, marriage — also bring responsibility and the risk of loss. For adults, happiness is complicated.
My dictionary explains happy as“lucky”or“fortunate”, but I think a better explanation of happiness is“the capacity for enjoyment” .The more we can enjoy what we have, the happier we are. It's easy to overlook the pleasure we get from loving and being loved, the company of friends, the freedom to love where we please, even good health. Nowadays, with so many choices and such pressure to succeed in every area,we have turned happiness into one more thing we“gotta have” .We're so self-conscious about our“right”to it that it's making us extremely unhappy. So we chase it and consider it to be the same as wealth and success, without noticing that the people who have those things aren't necessarily happier.
While happiness may be more complex for us, the solution is the same as ever.Happiness isn't about what happens to us — it's about how we perceive what happens to us. It's the ability to find a positive for every negative, and view a setback as a challenge. It's not wishing for what we don't have, but enjoying what we do possess.
36.According to the author, happiness lies in the ability to
A. think of something extraordinary B. experience delight at an old age

A. he can realize what happiness is B. he may not end up with happiness
