Associate Professor Kaihuai Liao is assistant to the dean, and head of the Department of Urban and Rural Planning. After received a PhD in Human Geography from the University of Kiel, Germany, He was introduced by Guangdong University of Technology's “One-Hundred Young Talents” Program (Level A). By mainly focusing on the study of regional and spatial planning, and the borders of different spatial scales, He has been funded by several scientific research projects including the General Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), NSFC for Distinguished Young Scholars, Introduction Program of High-end Foreign Experts from the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, Science and Technology Innovation Program of Guangzhou, the Construction of “National Science and Technology Think Tank” Project of Guangzhou, and “Yangcheng Young Scholars” project of Guangzhou. As a key member of the project, he has also participated in research projects such as the German Natural Science Foundation (DFG) and the National Technology Support Program.
Moreover, he has extensive experience in urban planning projects, and has successively participated in the completion of more than ten provincial and municipal planning projects, such as “Major Function Zone Planning of Guangdong Province”, “the Report of Urban Renewal Development of Guangzhou” and so on. He has accumulated more than 20 academic achievements in domestic and foreign journals such as Urban Studies, Urban Geography, Urban Development Studies, and Urban Planning International and has won the third prize of Awards of Excellent Urban and Rural Planning and Design twice and the commendation award once. A government consulting report he completed was approved by the provincial leadership.
